Bergen is most famous for the Bryggen, or dock area, which dates back to the previous millennia. |
Interspersed between the row of bryggen structures are narrow crooked alleyways reinforced with wooden supports. |
Boats of various sizes line the edges of the harbor, and we happened to arrive during a docking of the Tall Ship Races. |
Large sailing vessels from around the world assemble for the event. This one is from Mexico. |
Ships were docked three deep at Bryggen creating a tangled web of ropes and masts | |
The old fort guards the entrance to the harbor. |
Old Bergen is on the hillside above the harbor. |
Crooked cobblestone paths and stairways meander up the hill. |
After a pretty steep climb one is treated to a view. |
Dawn liked this fountain located in a plaza surrounded by the bustling commerce of town. |
Come evening we were treated to a colorful sunset |
A night view of the harbor from our hotel window |
Leaving Bergen I was happy to see that you still have to share the road with goats. |
We drove along the famous Hardangerfjord. |
Hardangerfjord farms are known for their fruit orchards |
As we drove through Telemark and approached Oslo I had to get a picture of a typical old style Norwegian outbuilding. Dawn and I flew home the next day. It was fantastic visiting Norway! |
