Geiranger
Geiranger village and fjord

After leaving Lillehammer, we crossed the mountains and dropped down into Geiranger.

Ferry arriving at Geiranger

Although Norway has an amazing system of tunnels through mountains of solid rock and under water, ferries are still a necessary part of travel used to traverse fjords.

abandoned farms

Abandoned farms without road access dot the hillsides; however, the properties are maintained by an organization called "friends of the fjords".

Liabygda

As the ferry rounded a cliff and entered another inlet, the village of Liabygda came into view.

Liabygda farm

I worked on this farm in Liabygda in the fall of 1972. It has road access, and the area seems to be thriving. Liabygda is about an hour and a half drive from Aalesund.
