 Although Norway has an amazing system of tunnels through mountains of solid rock and under water, ferries are still a necessary part of travel used to traverse fjords. |

|  Abandoned farms without road access dot the hillsides; however, the properties are maintained by an organization called "friends of the fjords". | |

|  As the ferry rounded a cliff and entered another inlet, the village of Liabygda came into view. | |

|  I worked on this farm in Liabygda in the fall of 1972. It has road access, and the area seems to be thriving. Liabygda is about an hour and a half drive from Aalesund. | |
